2、aditional narrative, and are mainly pointed to the review of the traditional culture. Feng Jicai was born in Tianjin, who has been familiar with the customs of Tianjin, and been fond of folk Tianjin culture since he was
3、young. he loved traditional Vernacular fiction, and was good at story-telling. these factors are foundation of Feng’s “Tianjin-featured” novels creation. The traditional narrative skills had a profound impact on Feng’s
4、“Tianjin- featured” novels. Feng deliberately imitated the traditional narrative patterns. The author borrowed the traditional way of building images, including the image-appearance art of historical-telling, and “three-
5、dye artist”, also including some traditional and detailed descriptive way. He also learned from the traditional plot structure, organizing the story in a plot-centered way, loving to wave dramatic plots, emphasizing the
6、entirety and coherence of stories. A number of traditional narrative materials have been appeared in Feng’s novels. His novels reproduced images of some traditional models, such as warrens, knights, kind person, faithful
7、 servant, and villains. The author uses some traditional story models, like a battle between the good and the evil, immortal enlightenment, karma. He pictured a true picture of folk customs in Tianjin at the end of Qing
8、Dynasty, represents the details of the real social life at a specific historical time and in a specific space. “The reflection of culture” is the theoretic “declaration” of Feng’s “Tianjin- featured” novels, which consis
9、ts of three progressive levels, namely “the disadvantages of culture”, “the self-restraint of culture”, and “the closed-system of culture”. However, to Feng’s standpoint of culture reflection, there are profound contradi
10、ctions. He attempted to comprehensively and profoundly criticize the traditional culture, but he still wanted to approve the overall value of it at the same time. So he finally was trapped into a dilemma. “Searching for
