3、acial discrimination on the lives of the black and the white. There are many death scenes in this novel. This paper will discuss the effect of racial problems on the black’s lives and the significance of the black tradit

4、ional culture to the black’s survival by analyzing the function of the death scenes on the organization and theme development of Song of Solomon. The theory of universal connexion will be adopted in the analysis. This pa

5、per is divided into three parts with Introduction and Conclusion. Introduction contains a brief statement about the current situation of research into Morrison’s works and the organization of this paper. Chapter 1 discus

6、ses the function of death in the organization of the novel. Song of Solomon begins with the death of Robert Smith and ends with Pilate’s death. And the story is unfolded from two other death scenes, the death of Jake and

7、 Guitar’s father. The violence in the black’s lives accounts for the excessive death scenes in this novel. Chapter 2 focuses on the function of death in the theme development of the novel. The death caused by racial prob

8、lems will have a lasting negative effect on the black’s lives and also on the white’s lives by deteriorating the racial relation. Jake’s death exerts a profound effect on Macon’s and Pilate’s lives. It does not only dist
